Dr. Yadollah Bahrami, the Director of Medical Information and Scientific Resources at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences (KUMS), has announced the university's significant achievements in the latest edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, published in July 2025.
He reported that KUMS has made a noteworthy advancement of 967 positions on the global scale, elevating its rank from 3015 in the previous edition to 2048 in the current evaluation. This remarkable improvement positions KUMS among the most rapidly developing academic institutions in the nation. On a national level, KUMS has progressed from the 22nd to the 9th position among Iranian universities of medical sciences. This marks a historic moment for the university, as it is now ranked among the top ten medical universities in Iran for the first time.
Dr. Bahrami emphasized that this achievement is a result of strategic efforts and the collective commitment of the entire academic community at KUMS. He stated, “The university’s advancement in the Webometrics ranking reflects its sustained academic growth, enhanced digital presence, and increasing influence in global knowledge dissemination. It illustrates our institutional dedication to academic excellence and international collaboration.”
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of the Webometrics Ranking System, which is developed by the Cybermetrics Lab affiliated with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and is recognized as a credible framework for assessing universities' web-based visibility and academic performance.
In the July 2025 edition, the ranking evaluates institutions based on three primary indicators. The "Visibility" indicator, accounting for 50 percent, measures the impact of the university's website through the number of links it receives from various domains. The second indicator, "Excellence," which carries a weight of 40 percent, focuses on the number of university articles that rank among the top 10 percent of the most cited articles globally from 2020 to 2024. Finally, the "Transparency" indicator, comprising 10 percent, assesses the citation counts of university researchers within the OpenAlex database.
Dr. Bahrami extended heartfelt congratulations to the university's Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, faculty members, staff, students, and the broader academic community of Kermanshah province on this significant achievement. He expressed hope that this growth path will continue as a result of the university’s ongoing commitment to scientific advancement and research promotion.
