Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences (KUMS) has achieved a significant milestone by being ranked second among all medical universities in Iran in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2025. This distinguished accomplishment was announced by Dr. Yadollah Bahrami, the Director of Medical Information and Scientific Resources at KUMS.
Dr. Bahrami stated, “Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences is honored to have attained second place among Iranian medical universities in the esteemed Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2025. This remarkable achievement highlights the university’s ongoing advancement in medical education, research, and innovation. It reflects our long-term strategic emphasis on academic excellence, scientific innovation, and international collaboration—elements that continue to enhance our national and regional standing.”
In addition to its strong national recognition, KUMS has been ranked 121st among all universities in Asia, further establishing its reputation as a significant institution in the region. For context, Tehran University of Medical Sciences ranked 109th, securing the first position among Iranian medical universities, while Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, ranked 154th, holds third place.
The 2025 edition of the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings evaluated 30 Iranian medical universities—seven more than the previous year—illustrating the expanding influence of Iranian institutions in the global academic landscape. Of these 30 universities, four advanced in rank, 11 experienced a decline, eight maintained their positions, and seven were included in the rankings for the first time.
The Times Higher Education rankings are widely recognized as one of the most authoritative global benchmarks for university performance. The Asia 2025 edition assessed 853 universities across 35 countries, employing 17 performance indicators across five core categories: teaching (24.5%), research output (28%), citation impact (30%), industry income (10%), and international outlook (7.5%).
Reflecting on this achievement, Dr. Bahrami expressed his sincere appreciation for the continual support from the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor for Research and Technology, whose leadership has been pivotal in this success. He noted, “This achievement is a testament to our collective commitment to academic excellence and scientific progression. I extend my deepest gratitude to all faculty, staff, and colleagues whose dedication has contributed to enhancing the university's profile both nationally and internationally.”
