Implementation of the First Phase of the Supplementary Polio Vaccination Campaign in Kermanshah Province

Implementation of the First Phase of the Supplementary Polio Vaccination Campaign in Kermanshah Province

The Deputy of Health at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences announced the implementation of the first phase of the supplementary polio vaccination campaign in Kermanshah Province during an interview with the university’s public relations office.

Dr. Imani stated: In order to maintain the achievements of the polio eradication program and to minimize the risk of polio virus importation and circulation, annual supplementary immunization operations are conducted in two rounds, actively and door-to-door, in high-risk areas.

Emphasizing the importance of this initiative, he said: Given Iran’s proximity to two polio-endemic countries on its eastern border and the movement of nationals from Afghanistan and Pakistan into the country, implementing the supplementary polio vaccination campaign in high-risk areas of the province — including border regions, nomadic populations, and villages without health houses — is of particular importance.

Dr. Imani explained that the first round of the supplementary polio vaccination campaign will take place from April 11 to April 13, 2025, targeting 493 children under the age of five across the province. The second round will be held from May 17 to May 19, 2025.

Regarding the implementation method, the Deputy of Health said: In the mentioned areas, two oral drops of the polio vaccine will be administered to children under five years of age (born after April 11, 2020) by operational teams through door-to-door visits.

He added: In this campaign, 49 three-member operational health teams — consisting of a supervisor, a vaccinator, and a driver — will participate. During the first phase of the campaign, 1,633 households with a total population of approximately 6,547 people will be visited.
